The Face of Horror

Synopsis
“They say the devil is behind a lady’s mirror, looking into our world…”
In a time of medieval war, when the Black Death is a recent memory — handsome knight Edward Carnifex (Jonah Hauer-King), accompanied by his faithful squire Richard York (Leo Suter), murders a local landowner, marries his daughter Eleanor (Kristine Froseth), and promises to avenge the very crime he committed.
He then melts her face off when he finds someone better. But what begins as Edward’s perfect cover-up spirals into a waking nightmare, as his dead wife orchestrates his destruction from beyond the grave. Her sister Beatrice (Ellie Bamber), now Richard’s reluctant bride, watches the horror unfold with growing suspicion.
Every move Edward makes only tightens Eleanor’s supernatural stranglehold, until he's driven to acts of violence that make his original murders look merciful.
Far from a typical period piece - it's a Technicolor fever dream where rage transcends death. From Anna Biller, visionary director of The Love Witch, comes a medieval nightmare of betrayal, revenge, and supernatural carnage.
Gorgeous, gruesome, and gloriously unhinged - a gothic horror story where justice comes clad in silk soaked with blood.
Inspired by "Yotsuya Kaidan" – the most famous Japanese ghost story of all time.
