Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’, Jerzy Skolimowski’s ‘Moonlighting’, Jia Zhang-Ke Short & Bruce Dern Doc Unveiled For Cannes Classics

Bruce and Laura Dern, Guillermo del Toro, Artavazd Pelechian, Dario Argento, Jerzy Skolimowski will be among the guests attending Cannes Classics this year.

The line-up for the Cannes Film Festival’s heritage strand, which was unveiled on Tuesday, features a 4K restoration of del Toro’s 2006 picture Pan’s Labyrinth. Del Toro will attend the screening marking the 20th anniversary of its world premiere in Cannes.

Other restored films include the 1982 picture Moonlighting in the presence of Polish director Skolimowski and his wife Ewa Piaskowska. Argento will attend a screening of Giuseppe Patroni Griffi’s 1968 work Love Circle for which he wrote the screenplay.

The entire Cannes Classics section – spanning 21 feature films, three short films, and 6 documentaries – will be dedicated to U.S. The Godfather, Apocalypse Now and Bonnie and Clyde production designer Dean Tavoularis who died in Paris on April 22 at the age of 93.

The short films include Jia Zhang-Ke’s Torino Shadow which he created for Italy’s Museo Nazionale del Cinema Torino as part of its Torino Encounters initiative. Zhao Tao stars as a woman who travels from southern China to Turin, Italy, to see her husband. But an unexpected departure leaves her to find herself again – and to find cinema. Jia Zhang-Ke and lead actress Zhao Tao will attend the screening.
