13th May, 2013

Variety by Leo Barraclough

Embankment Films is handling international sales and co-represent the U.S. with CAA. The company will commence sales to international distributors at Cannes.

Winslet plays Tilly, an avenging angel who returns home to the remote country town from which she fled as a child after being accused of murder, to make amends with her eccentric mother.

Although ostracized, Tilly, an exponent of the most stunning 40s haute couture, liberates and empowers the town’s women with her wit as well as her beautiful and fashionable creations. She unexpectedly finds love and ultimately exacts sweet revenge on those who wronged her.

Moorhouse (“Proof,” “How to Make an American Quilt”) directs her script adaptation of the novel by Rosalie Ham.

The crew includes director of photography Don McAlpine (“X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” “Moulin Rouge!”), costume designer Janet Patterson (“Bright Star,” “The Piano”), production designer Roger Ford (“Chronicles of Nania”) and editor Jill Bilcock (“Moulin Rouge!”). Pre-production begins in the fall.

Pic is produced by Sue Maslin (“Japanese Story”) through Film Art Media, and has been developed with the assistance of Screen Australia, Film Victoria and Screen NSW.

The film is backed by Ingenious Senior Film Fund.

Winslet is represented by CAA and United Agents.
